1A vs ICSM 1s - 04/12/2018
ICSM 1s 5 - 14 BLWP
Another week, another challenger to try and dethrone LUSL 1A at the top of the league. ICSM 1s hosted this heavyweight clash, who were still nursing their wounds following a convincing loss at the hands of LUSL 1B just one week prior.
We unfortunately suffered heavily before the match had even begun, with SSC’s and severe illness sidelining important players, leaving us stranded with 8 players. The heroes over at LUSL 1B stepped up in our hour of need, with the transfers of Drip Drop, Sea Hare and Tadpole Emma.
ICSM used all the oldest tricks in the book in an attempt to derail our fractured team, with a late swim off and the worlds least grippy balls for our warm up. It unfortunately worked as we put in a very poor first quarter display.
We played the exact opposite quarter we wanted to, conceding innumerable counters carelessly, pressing loosely and giving away sloppy fouls. In attack, we conceded possession far too easily, and elected to chip far too much (my bad hehe). Powerful pit play from Drip Drop, and our ever trusty Paul in goal carried us through this quarter, allowing us to regroup at the break winning 4-3.
Very strong words and a big restructuring at the break led to a completely transformed team, and a completely different final 3 quarters. We finally began to fight for each other, as our defence executed a flawless half court press. With Water Aid dominating their pit attacker, and aggressive pressing from Sea Hare and Cutty Shark, ICSM were bamboozled. Speedy tracking back from tadpole Emma and Angela Mackeral shut out their counters, leading us to a clean sheet for the quarter. Goals from Drip Drop, Monthly Dip and a screamer from Tillicum left us with a 7-3 lead at half time.
The 3rd and 4th quarters were thankfully a repeat of the 2nd quarter. New personnel Tadpoles Lizzy and Rowan bought into the LUSL 1A way, and put in phenomenal shifts to bring home the bacon. The game finished a strong 14-5!
Lots to be proud of from a great win, which moves us to 3/3 wins and keeps us cushty at the top of the league. Massive well done to all involved!
