1A vs King’s - 05/11/2018
KCL 4 - 6 BLWP
LUSL 1A kicked off their season in the most difficult of circumstances, away at King’s. Illness was rife, having just returned from BrighTOUR 24 hours ago. The stage was Orchard Lisle swimming pool- the most narrow and shallow pool in the continent. The odds were stacked against our 9 travelling warriors.
We started the first quarter off sluggishly, with our minds and bodies not quite in the fight yet. Our tight press was loose, and we struggled to get ourselves up the pool. King’s punished us, and we found ourselves trailing 2-1 at the break.
After a passionate team talk and restructuring, we improved on all aspects of our play, individually and as a team. Candiru and Tadpole Alex, in his debut, put in a phenomenal shift in defence. Anything that snuck past them was thwarted by Paul, and his new best mate (the cross bar). Clinical finishes from Tillicum and Monthly Dip meant we went into the 3rd quarter locked in at 3-3.
From this point onwards, the game began to get frantic and loose. Both teams lost their shape, with us both not in the peak of our fitness powers either. The difference proved to be our desire, with Mudskipper and Crucifish bossing the middle of the pool, allowing us to go into the last quarter 4-3 up.
The 4th quarter was a repeat of the 3rd, as we squeezed through with a massive 6-4 win. Huge shoutout to our LUSL 1B loanees Tadpole Chloe and Shartyn, who put in massive shifts for us and proved to be the difference. Another big shoutout to the opposition’s table, who also put in a great performance. LUSL 1A warriors undefeated!
