Blackwell vs King’s - 04/11/2019
BLWP 19 - 12 KCL
And so it begins, with all the hype descending upon Shadwell to start the first game of the Blackwell season against KCL.
With a wave of the ref’s hand and the drop of the ball we were off! Tadpole James displayed his swimming prowess by winning the swim off. Balls were thrown and dominance was asserted and we ended the quarter 8-2 up. The second quarter started with Tadpole Lappy winning the swim off. This was a slower quarter with 2 goals scored on both sides ending with us 10-4 up. Half time hit us and we were all dying as most of us were being marked by players that all failed their anger management courses. The third quarter came around quickly and another swim off was won! A great steal from Tadpole Charis, amazing saves from WaterAid and 8 shots from Monthly Dip were the outstanding highlights from this quarter. Confusion from the ref led to him giving them a penalty! Was Marco Aleandro? Was Aleandro Marco? The ref was confused. Things were still looking up, however, as we ended it 18-6.
Then came the final quarter and St. George’s transformed into a battle ground. The Kings men were throwing punches, pulling hair and chaos ensued, unseen to the ref. Occupied by trying to survive, we conceded 6 goals.
It was not my first round of concussion to deal with but my first match as Blackwell captain and you all did me proud. Shout out to all the freshers making their first LUSL appearance. Also, thank you all for bearing through it all and getting to the end!
Yours in (not so great) health
Tillicum xx
