Blackwell vs UCL - 08/03/2020

BLWP 21 - 7 UCL

It’s the return of The Cup!!

With 11 players and 12 bagels in tow, we were heading for the semi-finals of The Cup!

As always, Blackwell came ready with their heads in the game, we wanted it and the CDC or the WHO weren’t going to stand in our way! It was a high pressured game as the winners would make it to the Final, the first BL would be in for a very long time. It was going to be a heated game in some icy waters and it saw the return of Annie to LUSL.

Tadpole James, right out the gate won the swim-off and Marco, with a quick one-two from Aleandro, scored a goal before Leah could even reach pit. It was an amazing quarter some stunning goals from Marco and Aleandro. We pressed them tighter than the current travel restrictions, we didn’t give them any chances to shoot, and when they did it was our goalie, Manuel Elhalwagy, that saved the day. It was such an impressive first quarter which finished with us 6-1 up.

The opposition were struggling to keep their shape so we had to make sure not to get sloppy and keep that arc fleeky. It was a fast paced quarter with some avoidable errors but we shook them off and got right back at it. With a ball straight to Liam, he swam down the line to get an incredible goal from 5 meters. You could see his number one fan, Callum, cry with tears of joy and whip out his flares. Marco and Aleandro once again helped us maintain a healthy distance from UCL with the quarter ending 10-3 to us.

Whilst recharging our batteries to the sound of the LUSL song, we reconvened for the start of the third quarter. This extra boost from our home crowd and our number one ultra made sure that we scored 8 goals in this quarter. We banged in goals faster than the pace of the English public panic buying toilet paper. The keeper was not having a good time and all his touches this quarter were from picking up the ball from inside the goal. Liam got another goal, banging it from close distance with no mercy, Leah scored a goal from good pit play, and Marco and Aleandro managed to combine effectively again to ensure that we ended the quarter 18-4 up! A special shoutout must go to UCLs best defender, the crossbar. It was only due to this that Charis wasn’t able to get on the scoresheet with a cheeky ridiculous block by this apparatus from the penalty spot.

The final quarter was upon us, the fields of York Hall had blessed us, and we were marching on. We were still managing to attack well but their keeper had finally had enough of conceding goals and decided to save some. James, Theo, Josh, and Ania all had shots saved by this gargantuan wall of a man. We teased them by letting them score 3 goals but we matched that with Leah scoring 3 goals herself, cancelling their efforts. The final score was BL 21 - 7 UCL! A huge congratulations to all that played and ensured that we will have the opportunity to win silverware this season. It wouldn’t have happened without all your hard work and dedication!

As always, from a very proud Captain,

Tillicum xx.
