London vs ICSM2 (A) - 26/11/2024
BLWP 10 - 06 ICSM2
On Tuesday 26th November the mighty LUSL London ventured to the faraway land of South Kensington to take on ICSM2s at Ethos. Poonami made the train with seconds to spare but remained as chilled as ever and we accumulated members as we continued our journey. With five minutes until the match and everyone poolside except Miracle Milf, we were starting to worry that we’d have to play without a goalie but she came through for us and got herself into the water just in time to save some goals. However, not before complaining that Ethos has her least favourite goals to defend (she says this about every pool). During the pre-match shenanigans Tp James got pulled aside by the ref who wanted to tell him how ‘special’ he is and give him his number for some post-match fun. Armed with Snailfish’ sister and friend and Tp Cole’s parents for support, we began our battle.
Quarter 1: The London started off the match strong, winning the swim off and scoring a nice couple of goals, one from Snailfish and one from Tp Cole. We stuck strong in our defence and conservatively attacked from a safe distance. We had some nice saves from Milfy and some good work from Chundy Shark in pit A and ended the first quarter comfortable at 2-0 to us.
Quarter 2: In this quarter, our formation was once again nowhere to be seen and we were playing quite some distance from the goal, however Tp Aaren still managed a lovely goal and only conceded one. We saw some excellent stamina and shots from Tp James and some great work in it from Tp Oscar. This quarter ended with a score of 3-1 to us.
Quarter 3: Going into our second half, Snailfish decided to try to impress his sister’s lovely friend with some more classic backshots from halfway. In fairness to him, a couple of them did actually go in this time. During this quarter, Ceviche, Virgin Active and I started to feel the effects of only having one female sub and Virgin Active and I both had a failed attempt as pit D. ICSM scored an impressive four goals and the score got a bit too close for comfort, reaching only 5-4 to us. However, the overexcited chanting of ICSM’s supporters spurred us on and Tp Cole banged out a couple more goals, leaving the quarter at 7-4.
Quarter 4: With Tp Chris and Tp Hugo on the wing and Chundy Shark managing substitutions for me, we managed to end the match with a very respectable score of 10-6. Due to the incompetence of ICSM’s tablers and my exhaustion, I’m unclear on exactly who scored in the final quarter. It’s generally safe to assume that our final goals came from Snailfish and Tp Cole but none of us can really remember. Possibly the most unbelievable feat of this game was that Snailfish didn’t wrack up a single major, which could be down to mistakes from either the ref or the table!
I’m very grateful to all those that made the journey to our first away match and loved seeing the same enthusiasm and smiles continuing into our second match of the season! Also well done LUSL London for our first win of the year!
