London vs Kings (H) - 05/12/2024

BLWP 09 - 19 Kings

On Thursday 5th December, the mighty LUSL London took on Kings at Poplar baths for their joint league and cup match. Eleven of our finest players showed for this doubly-important match played on both teams’ home ground.

1st quarter:

We started off with Snailfish defending the deep end goal and Tp Cole winning the swim off then moving to driver where he scored three lovely goals, supported by Tp James and Hussein holding their own at pit A and D. We had some excellent saves from Snailfish who showed off, showing us that he is capable of playing literally any position while shouting at the other team at the same time. The women were feeling the aftereffects of BNOC the night before and being low on numbers gave it our all with Ceviche and Incidor subbing efficiently on the wing. We ended the first quarter at 3-3, a true feat considering our strong opponents.

2nd quarter:

In the second quarter we had Milfy standing strong in the shallow end goal with plenty of textbook saves (she doesn’t complain so much about the Poplar shallow end goal). With Snailfish let loose outfield he managed an impressive four goals in this quarter, supported by me and Tp James taking turns in pit. Tp Aaren stuck to his player as driver and had a couple of shots at the goal – he’s a player to watch out for in matches to come. On the other side Oscar played a strong match in his final game for LUSL London before he returns to the other side of the pond – he will be much missed. This quarter ended once again with an even score of 7-7 which we were feeling amazing about. However, it also ended with Snailfish racking up 3 majors and getting himself wrapped at halftime after he got a bit overexcited in pit, which we felt less amazing about. There were about ten seconds between me warning Snailfish that he was on two majors and needed to be careful and him fouling yet again.

3rd quarter:

With our alternative goalie now demoted to a cheerleader on the side, Milfy had to defend the deep end. Kings chose this moment to unleash their star player, possibly the sexiest and cockiest man in LUSL: Pierluigi. He took this opportunity to take on Miracle Milf one-on-one and score four consecutive goals while smiling at her before deciding they had enough of a lead on us and subbing out. Tadpole Cole got a goal in this quarter but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to keep us even and with another three Kings players having a go at scoring a goal the quarter ended 8-14 to the opposition.

4th quarter:

By the final quarter we were feeling slightly less amazing about things, and with only ten players, fatigue was setting in. Despite another goal from Tadpole Cole and some lovely play from Chris on the wing, Kings managed to score another five goals and we finished the match at 9-19. Some might say it went a little bit downhill after half time but we ended with smiles all round and then stayed to play a match with mixed Barts and Kings teams (who really did not want to mix) and then my favourite game: jungle!

Player of the match:

Tadpole Oscar for being in almost the whole match, bringing enthusiasm and a smile and always playing well.

DOD:

Snailfish for getting wrapped before half time and then blaming me for picking a ref that gave him majors when he deserved it.

Goals:

Snailfish – 4

Tp Cole - 5
