London vs UCL (H) - 14/11/2024
BLWP 06 - 11 UCL
On Thursday, the mighty LUSL London met at Poplar Baths for their showdown against UCL. Once Helsinki and BCF had gotten over their excitement at our shiny new electric scoreboard and I’d tracked down the UCL captain we were ready to go!
1st quarter: we won the coin toss and hopped in the deep end with Snailfish in goal, managing to tread water pretty well despite only having one functional leg. In this quarter we saw an amazing LUSL debut from Tp James and Tp Oscar who proved themselves as excellent drivers while I drowned in Pit A. We had a lovely goal from Tp Cole to kick us off and an unexpected goal from Snailfish as he ventured far from his position as goal keeper. The quarter ended with a score of 4-2 to UCL.
2nd quarter: with Miracle Milf now holding her own in goal, we started our substitutions and had Ceviche sprinting up and down the wings. We also had Virgin Active playing at the top of her game despite a recent kneecap dislocation. Towards the end of this quarter the arc died a death, with formation nowhere to be seen. However, somewhere amidst the chaos we managed one goal from Tp Cole and two more from Snailfish, reaching half time with an even score of 5-5.
3rd quarter: we put Snailfish back in goal to reduce the chaos outfield and introduced Grouper to the wing, with Falala and Incidor still going strong as an unbeatable wing-driver duo. In this quarter, energy started to flag a bit, and Snailfish had to take on UCL’s number 4 in a head-to-head several times, however he still managed to find time to swim down and score again. We finished the quarter at 10-6 to UCL.
4th quarter: In the final quarter, we regained control of the match and only conceded one goal, with some incredible saves from Miracle Milf. The only 3 girls that seem to go to UCL started to get tired at this point and one of them decided to climb on top of both Tp James and Snailfish in the shallow end. Tp Hugo came into his own in this quarter, sticking to his player like glue on the wing. Snailfish attempted some backshots from halfway and then did of course get wrapped and the game ended with a respectable score of 11-6.
I’m so proud of how everyone played and I think we all came out of the match smiling! We then made the most of our pool time and splashed about a bit with UCL at the end.
Goals Scored:
Tp Cole – 2
Snailfish – 4
Player of the Match: Tp James for playing almost the entire match and being a real asset, both as a driver and in Pit A.
DOD: Snailfish for getting wrapped and many failed silly shots in the last quarter.
