LUSL Barts vs ICSM 2s - 10/01/2023 (A)
BLWP 23 - 3 ICSM
On Tuesday 10th January LUSL Barts made the trek down to Ethos to face ICSM 2s, aka our frenemies. It was their first match of the new year and everyone was raring to go.
Water Aid took his favourite place in goal and once again proved to be a wall, denying ICSM goals at every opportunity that arose. Meanwhile Tadpole Eira swum gracefully up and down the wings, consistently helping transition the ball to our attack. Another of our Tadpoles, Isabel, ramped up her aggression and put in countless shifts fighting for the ball, and much to ICSM’s frustration, got us numerous turnovers. Barney Bear brought composure and reassurance to the pool as players could always rely on him to pass to. He also displayed some excellent partnerships with Tadpole Christian on several occasions. Our Dane scored a disrespectful number of goals- 13, with trickshots only allowed of course and his feistiness through the roof as he was sent out twice. Poonami played his socks off in defence, taking on ICSM’s no. 3, who was a notoriously horrible player, trying to play pit A from all parts of the pool and batting people in the face left, right and centre. Our own pit A, Tadpole Noah, was quite the opposite of whatever their no. 3 was doing, and smashed 4 balls in the goal for us. Leech was very speedy and outswum her opponent time and again, taking many of their men by surprise.
Then came our resident pit D (Sea Hare), who absolutely battered their attack, whilst at the same time proving to be a goal-scoring machine and adding another 3 to BLWP’s total. Despite our fitness being challenged by the longest quarters in history (due to some questionable tabling), Falala refused to be beaten. She displayed unimaginable determination each time she was near the ball and shows great potential. Anglerfish was not to be stopped in this match, as she took on strong players throughout and taking the goalie by surprise twice in the final quarter. Chundy Shark played his heart out and without exception did not disappoint, as he took their goalie by complete surprise and shot so hard it went right through his hands.
This all under the leadership of Helsinki, who stayed calm and found space in the water, and on numerous occasions had to walk to the table and bring out her inner Karen to address the horrendous timekeeping.
Final score: Barts win 23-3
Players of the match: our finalists Sea Hare and Water Aid for bringing unbeatable team spirit and maturity to this game!
