LUSL Bart’s vs King’s (H) - 15/01/2024

On a dark evening of the 15th January lusl Barts headed down to fortress Poplar. We were feeling refreshed and ready for the challenge ahead. Looking to right the wrong of the past and get redemption against Kings.

The first quarter saw Lumpfish win the swim off… setting the precident for the game. Flaccid Brexit quickly found the opportunity to sling one into the net to shake Kings. Tadpole Balint battled in pit D with their slippery pit A, and in some change of events stormed out of defence to show their pit A how to shoot. Meanwhile Helisinki pressured her player so hard they couldn’t help but fumble the ball leading to countless turnovers. Lumpy took the opportunity to show them some real speeddddddd and put one into the back of the net. 4-2 to Barts. The only two goals from Kings when we were man down (naughty Flaccid) but we were rent free baby.

The second quarter began mirroring the first, swim off W. Ceviche graced the pool, swimming laps of her player up and down the wing. Tadpole Mary made her debut and it was beautiful! Pushing and pressing her player to make Kings take some risky shots. Tadpole Josh showed once again he is a man of many positions Taking on a new position yet again and smashing it. We found Leech accidentally finding her way into some sticky positions, aka Pit D….. I still hear Christian telling me ‘no the other side’ in my nightmares. A man up lead to a beautiful goal from Flaccid. 5-7 to Kings.

With some work to do we knew we had it in us to win. Third quarter? Swim off? Win? Lumpy? Of course. Anglerfish continued to show age doesn’t affect speed? Negative correlation I heard, incr. age = incr. speed, I need a few more years on me plz. Angler was seen speedily sneaking up on players to steal the ball, leading to some lovely assists. Tadpole Josh took the opportunity to lob one in, quickly followed by Tadpole Balint finding the back of the net too. Heli found space to feed the ball to Flaccid to make a swift shot. 8-10 to Kings.

The final quarter was upon us, and we had now warmed up. Tadpole Kev had warmed up her arthritic joints and put the speed onto full throttle, fighting a man twice her size. Chundy Shark took to the pool to gain some inside information on us (I don’t blame lusl London for sending some spies in), a rare sight to see Chundy outfield but it didn’t disappoint. Poonami took on pit, playing some great defence. Despite Balint obtaining some massive battle scars over the course of the game, he scored one after another this quarter! I’m not sure what Miracle Flow took just before this quarter but I want some! Miracle lived up to her name and performed some miraculous saves this quarter, again, and again, and again. Flaccid woke from his nap and decided to bang in 4 back to back shots!!!! With the final whistle we regained victorious, 14-13 to Barts. 5 years of tears, redemption. London is black and white.

Final result: 14-13 VICTORY!

POTM: Charis for some speedy intercepts to keep the ball in our possession, holding her own in pit A, and some very strong assists.

Goals:

Christian - 8

Balint - 4

Liam - 1

Josh - 1
