LUSL London vs IC 2s - 22/01/2023 (A)
BLWP 11 - 11 ICSM
On Sunday evening, LUSL London once again made their way to the infamous Ethos. With a few hiccups on the district line, our full team of 13 made it onto poolside to play Imperial 2s.
Starting with a win in the swim off, tadpole Cole then got hold of the ball and scored in the first 30 seconds. With a fast start to the game, energy was high. Some great communication between tadpole Domi and Barney helped move the ball up the pool. Bringing structure and composure to the game, Tadpole Domi showed some impressive defensive work in pit D, and also didn’t sub for the whole game demonstrating some first-class endurance. Barney organised himself into good space to receive and pass the ball swiftly. In a counter attack Incidor managed to squeeze a goal in the net, which was quickly followed with another high-powered goal by Tadpole Noah. Leech swam smoothly up and down the pool, and also showed some great strength in her playing. A further two powerful goals by tadpole Domi kept the London high on the scoreboard. Our marvellous goalie, Miracle flow, defended the net like her life depended on it and we saw some fabulous saves. There were a few goals from IC2s in this quarter, however, another goal from Captain America made the score 6-2 to the London.
Going into the second quarter, we saw some lovely defensive work from Pontoon who kept on his player, and found some lovely space for the ball. Tadpole Holly swam gracefully along the wing, showing some fab endurance when chasing the ball. Speeding up and down the pool, tadpole Rowan showed great determination in his playing and stayed tight to his player. After a few goals from IC2s, Tadpole Domi wasn’t having any of that and scored another goal for the London. The score after this quarter was a close one: the London 7 - 6 IC2s.
The third quarter felt like a lifetime, once again. Tadpole Chere swam beautifully on the wing and also showed some feisty playing in attack. Staying calm under pressure, Barney assured the team by finding great space to receive the ball. Some brilliant defensive work from tadpole Molly, who stayed firmly on her player. Tadpole Isabel managed to find excellent space and keep hold of the ball whilst being heavily marked. With a strong throw from tadpole Domi, Incidor took the counter attack and snuck a goal into the net. Tadpole Noah stayed strong in pit A, whilst occasionally being double marked. Everyone was feeling pretty exhausted by this point, however encouragement and motivation from all team members kept up the energy levels. After some IC2 goals snuck past Miracle flow, who was most of the time bopping balls up and out the net, our skilled tadpoles Cole and Domi once again bolted some powerful shots into the goal. The score was now 10-7, the London up by three.
With just a final push to go, we gave everything left in the tank. Possession was strong on our end, and there a good effort in finding space for passes. Numerous shot attempts from us was met with a pretty strong opposition’s goalie. After sitting out with a concussion, tadpole Cole got in the pool to coolly slam a goal in the back of the net. This was met with some strong goals from IC2s nearing the end of the game. After an intense last few minutes, we drew with a final score of 11-11.
Everyone put in such a tremendous effort and kept high energy levels throughout!
Player of the match goes to tadpole Isabel for demonstrating clever tactics and great strength when marking and being marked by the opposition.
