LUSL London vs UCL 1s - 09/01/2023 (A)
BLWP 12 - 11 UCL
For LUSL London’s first home game, we took on UCL1s in lovely Poplar with a strong team of 11. Starting off with a walkover (unsurprisingly) as UCL did not bring their own caps, however we were both still up for playing a match!
In the first quarter we had Amazon Molly speeding up and down the wing and putting in a great effort after some time away from the pool. We saw a fabulous goal from Tadpole Noah who kept his ground in pit A and had a great tussle with the opposition. Tadpole Christian took control of some exciting counter attacks, sprinting with the ball and smashing it in the net.
The score was a tie of 2-2 by the end of this quarter.
In the second quarter, Tadpole Holly gave a huge burst of energy, taking on two UCL players to try and win the ball, showing great confidence and determination in her playing. Barney put in a great shift in this match, playing some clever defensive work in pit. Miracle flo saved the ball left right and centre, winning us some time and strategic counter attacks. We had another goal from tadpole Christian, however UCL snuck some in as well, with the score now being 3-5 to UCL.
The third quarter was like a ping-pong match. One goal for them and then a goal for us…we kept up that determination and energy throughout the mach. Tadpole Isabel kept her cool against some feisty UCL girls, showing some lovely defence work. Tadpole Smaragda worked well in finding good space and keeping hold of the ball when challenged. UCL whipped in a few more goals, which was met with some powerful goals from Tadpole Christian. The score was now 6-10 to UCL.
Going into the final quarter, we knew we had a bit of work to do. Some encouragement and hyping up in the team chat beforehand ensured there was enough energy to keep going and make a comeback. And what a comeback it was! Some racing speed from Amazon Molly got us two goals from him, leaving his player a mile behind after stealing the ball. Tadpole Christian had another streak of goals in this quarter and could be seen bolting with the ball towards the goal a number of times. Dustbin demonstrated his passion for the London, having put plenty of pressure on his player, and also putting the ball in the net winning us another goal.
The final score was UCL 11 - 12 The London!!!
Everyone put in a huge effort and played some lovely waterpolo!
Player of the match goes to Tadpole Holly for a fabulous wee fight for the ball and showed great determination in her playing!
