LUSL Barts vs ICSM1s - 16/11/2020+1 (A)
BLWP 3- 9 ICSM1s
On Tuesday 16th November, 13 of LUSL Barts finest men and women descended upon Ethos to play our very first game of the season against ICSM1’s. After an extremely brisk warm up the first quarter started. The first five seconds saw myself somehow conceding a major foul and starting on a man down, which was brilliantly defended by the team with no goal conceded, thanks to WaterAid’s amazing shift in goal. After a beautiful goal from Lumpfish the World’s longest quarter (9 minutes and 32 seconds!) ended with ICSM’s scoring in the very last second. 1-1
Going into the second quarter exhausted from the almost 10 minutes of water polo already played, we had a chance to sub in some our new Tadpoles. Tadpole Harry and Tadpole Ethan both made their LUSL debuts here. With Tadpole Harry charging up one wing and Anglerfish on the other, we were well defended on the wing. After a nasty few counterattacks the score was 5-2 to ICSM, thanks to another great goal by Lumpfish. However, Port-a-loo managed to find the back of the net in the last few, even with the opponents fingernail scratching out her eye. 5-3 to ICSM1
Now down 1 player due to Port-a-loo’s eye injury, we had to cycle our players through pit position with Tadpole Helienke putting in a solid shift for a bit of the third quarter. After a world class steal by Tadpole Ethan in pit, we managed to get the ball to our LA deadeye Tadpole Cole whose shot was just saved by their keeper. However the highlight of this quarter was a narrowly high shot by Lumpfish which managed to knock a certain 70+ year old member of the opposition off his feet. 8-3 to ICSM1
After an exhausting three quarters, we held a tight line for the final quarter. Now with Lil Sardine on the wing and Tadpole Smaragda making her debut, we had a strong defence in, only conceding one goal. The highlight of this quarter however was Tadpole Abi thinking the ref was playing fudge cake with Lumpfish when he was being sent out for apparent brutality. Huge shout out to Tadpole Cole for playing the whole match without subbing and to Lumpfish for playing the whole (or most of) match whilst being seriously heckled by the opposition supporters.
Player of the match goes to Chloe for scoring even whilst having the oppositions hand in her eye.
