Men vs LSE (H) - 12/02/2024

Monday 12th February held one of the biggest game for the men’s team in years. The ramifications were clear: beat LSE and our hopes to win the league remain, lose and we would be out of contention. There was one problem though, LSE had not lost a BUCS game in at least two years.

The first quarter did not go as planned. We struggled to dismantle LSE’s defence of the shallow end, who were crowding the goal. Tadpole Balint did a great job defending a men twice his size in pit, but eventually LSE over came our defence to take the lead. Some missed passes and panic shooting gave LSE plenty of time to mount attacks at the deep end, and with some circumspect keeping from Chundy Shark LSE mounted a 3-0 lead by the end of the quarter.

Chundy Shark has PTSD from the second quarter. Featuring in his first MMA fight Chundy Shark was choked out by LSE number 3, after he incorrectly shot from a foul and Chundy picked the ball up. The tensions were very high at this point as we knew we had to strike and get a foothold in the game. Keeping our composure that is exactly what we did. Tadpole Domi all the way from Spain launched a ball so hard it got stuck in the goal to open proceedings. In total 7 goals went in this quarter, a real team effort to only 2 from LSE with the score at half time 7-5 to us!

With the lead now ours we just had to keep this quarter tight to ensure the match was ours. Valuable contributions from all members of the team ran LSE ragged. Barney Bear entered the fray making sure LSE’s pit had no respite. We completely out swam LSE with many counter-attacking opportunities leading to majors and goals. Lumpfish got his first of the game, along with Jole and Tadpole Balint. Our defence was steadfast but it did break on occasions from some good teamwork from LSE. Importantly, they only scored twice meaning whilst attacking the shallow end we increased the lead to 10-7.

The last quarter was feisty and an intense way to end the game. Tadpole Malek was a victim of assault to an area where you don’t want to be assaulted. Chundy Shark too was back in the action being pushed and shoved by every member of the LSE team. Flaccid Brexit had had enough and decided to put this game to bed brutally scoring another 3 goals in a matter of minutes. To secure the victory Poonami, Grunion and Tadpole Hussein entered the pool. Grunion’s bear hugging technique was particularly effective in defence giving nothing away to opposition. Lumpfish scored a penalty at some point too.

Final score 14-8

What a victory against a team we haven’t beaten in years. Massive team effort means the boys only need 2 more victories to secure the league.

Scorers:

  • Flaccid Brexit 6

  • Tadpole Balint 2

  • Tadpole Domi 1

  • Jole 2

  • Lumpfish 2

  • Tadpole Malek 1

MOTM: Tadpole Malek for preventing Chundy Shark from getting in a scrap and surviving the worst kind of assault known to man.

And of course I forgot to mention Lumpfish won all the swim-offs
