Men vs Surrey - 18/10/2020+1 (A)
BLWP 6 - 23 Surrey
12 of the finest men from BLWP made their way to Guildford for the first game since Boris put an end to the last season in 2020. Armed with all the training and tactics we can stuff in our heads, and one session on man up man downs, we were ready for the game.
First quarter started and our magnificent 7 swam off against Surrey. Lumpfish with all the swimming prowess behind him, after all the Liam swim sets for preseason, lost the first swim off and we got started on the defence. First quarter goes by without a goal and we realised the opponent's we were up against. 5-0 down after the end of the first quarter, we pull to the quarter time talk and figure out what was happening.
We go into the second quarter and already we start strong with a goal within the first minute our LA Deadeye Tadpole Cole showed Surrey how much he had been holding back. Three goals total from us and our push back was starting to get them to struggle. Tadpole Ethan made his debut in this quarter giving the winger a tough time with his MMA training. Penis gave the opposite wing the same treatment and Surrey realise they may have had an underestimation of our players. Although we had a couple kickouts this quarter, the one session we ran on Thursday was enough for our boys to tap into muscle memory and put Surrey in disarray unable to put many past Water Aid holding the goal line strong. Josh in Pit Defence was always giving his strong presence here as the only major plays from them scoring were counters against us. Leaving this quarter we go into halftime 11-3 with lessons to learn and goals to score
Switiching sides and we start our swim off with the first swim off win. We start our attack and get a few pings off which the Goalie stops by some essence similar to our own Paul, though not nearly the same. Alex in the pit attack had a mild disagreement with their pit player with the ref quickly intervening to stop any mishaps. On the wing our men Maxwell and Rowell kept the options open giving room for the pit and dropping in balls whenever the chance arose. Although we didn't sink any in the goal this quarter we held our own and had heads held high for the final quarter.
Tadpole Harry made his debut for BLWP here as well, swimming the right wing he realises why we train as hard as we do with a solid effort trying to drop one into the pit as well to Noah in Pit attack with his favourite player, their Greek number 10 giving Noah a great time in pit. In this last quarter we put up 3 goals from El Capitan, Cole and Alex to being us up to 6 total. An incredible well fought game with an untouchable man down, a game to be proud of by us all!
