Women vs Essex - 18/01/2020

Essex 2 - 8 BLWP

After a long trip to Clacton-on-sea, with Ava and Becky being our heroes and driving (sometimes like Lewis Hamilton) we arrived at the pool. 0.8m is actually quite shallow, who knew? Sumo squats at the ready!

A great start the game as Emma the first swim off, passed it into me and the first goal went in. The second play started, an amazing steal from Annie set Ania up for a fantastic shot: bish bash bosh the second goal was in!

Jasmine and Emma played brilliantly on the wing, making easy work of the 25m length playing field, opening up spaces to pass straight into pit where Leah could slam in another goal.

The ref was being strict about contact so we got a few fouls in this quarter, but not a problem because Jasmine has the long stealy arms to claim back the ball, Annie swam the ball in and took her shot. We now had 5 goals to none, when the whistle blew for the end of the first quarter.

The next quarter started strong with Soph, now goalie in the “deep end”, of course this wasn’t an issue and as per usual she saved some great attempts.

From here on, its hard to recall exactly what happened and who scored which goals as the people tableing didn’t write down who fouled, and decided to stop flipping the score board after a goal…

During the last 2 quarters we tried to adjust our strategy for a longer pool, but this is something that needs more practice to use the pool effectively. Having said that, we didn’t let it phase us, and our swim sessions paid off by allowing us to zip up and down the pool getting more goals in and defending well.

Emma and Leah slung another 3 goals in throughout the game and the game was WON. That means we are now through to the next round, and will play Bristol very soon!

Having got a 4 win-streak, possibly our biggest win of the day had to be the post-match Pizza! Well done to all the girls that played, you smashed it.
