Women vs King’s - 10/11/2022 (A)
BLWP 5 - 13 King’s
This Thursday the ladies had their first home match of the year in Fortress Poplar. Despite TFL’s best efforts stop this showdown, both teams were able to make it.
The first quarter got off to a shaky start, but it did not leave us feeling deflated. Tadpole Leiah took on her player with vigour, getting her first ever major within minutes of the game starting. Leech made some great breaks away from her player, helping out massively with defence, especially during man downs. Tadpole Isabelle started strong as a driver, communicating well with the goalie. Unfortunately we ended this quarter six goals down but I like to think we were just warming up.
After Coach Ciara’s team talk we had a clear plan for the next quarter. Incidor had some beautiful bursts of energy, leaving her player behind and managing to score two incredible goals. Lil Sardine brought the ball close to the goal and made the most of the man ups. Helsinki squabbled with her player but managed to avoid any major fouls - a rare occurrence for this match.
Our half time talk put us in great spirits and gave Tadpole Smaragda new determination. She took a great opportunity for a goal and swam it all the way in to the goal. Both Anglerfish and Tadpole Smaragda got close with player number 12 who loved nipples. Tadpole Eira entered the pool and shocked her player with speed on the wing, sticking to her like glue.
The last quarter sent Anglerfish into a frenzy. She drew so many fouls from her players before lobbing a ball straight into the corner of the goal. Tadpole Molly played her first ever quarter and was great on the wing, slowing the pace of the attack down and sticking on her player. Tadpole Smaragda also got another sneaky goal in this quarter.
Overall this was a great much with massive improvements in attack and defence from our girls since the first match.
The final score was 13-5 to Kings but the play was great and everyone put so much energy into the game. In such a short amount of time we have improved our play dramatically and the rest of the season holds so much promise!
Player of the match goes to Tadpole Isabelle for some great positioning of her player and switching between pit D and driver with lots of ease!
