Women vs Southampton - 15/02/2023 (A)
BLWP 1 - 10 Southampton
After watching Southampton play our men’s team, the women were pumped up and ready to battle!
Southampton women were reluctant to play us, needing an extra five minutes to warm up. Clearly they were scared. There were some excellent set ups in this quarter, with our girls growing their confidence. Leech made some excellent breaks towards the goal, making some excellent shots. Unfortunately their goalie was a beast and we weren’t able to shoot in this quarter. Helsinki made was able to keep her player from shooting in Pit D, stopping loads of possible goals. At the end of the first quarter it was 3 nil to Southampton.
The second quarter saw even more attacks and a stronger defence. Lil sardine started to misbehave and got sent out. Virgin River gave her player a workout out, pacing it around the pool. A quote from Incidor ‘My girl is quick, but she has no clue what she’s doing’. Tadpole Kev made her comeback on the wing, speeding up and down like she’d never been gone. Only one goal slipped past us in this quarter, but we had definitely rubbed up their captain the wrong way.
After half time it was Sperm’s time to shine. Like the strongest swimmer of the bunch she outpaced her player and made some great breaks away from her player while always looking for the ball. Tadpole Molly kept up with her player and made sure to keep structure on the wing. Tadpole Isabel betrayed her home town and almost pushed her player out of the pool, before doing some aggressive defending in Pit D. Falala did some great moves in Pit A, despite the fact that she absolutely did not want to be there.
The final quarter made us determined to get a goal past their goalie. Some excellent communication from Incidor and Anglerfish finally bamboozled her, with Anglerfish managing to bash one into the corner. Lil Sardine showed her dark side and was wrapped for the first time in her career - we were all very proud! Unfortunately their team got the better of us, however we all really pushed ourselves and definitely know what we need to work on next term.
The final score was 10-1 to Southampton.
Player of the match goes to Falala for some excellent work in Pit A and brilliant energy throughout the match.
Dick of the Day goes to Lil Sardine, for getting wrapped and then missing the train after getting the bus.
