29/11/2023 - Women vs Southampton (A)

BLWP gather in waterloo station on a busy Wednesday afternoon, ready for a long cold trip to lovely Southampton.

We got there nice and early, allowing plenty of time to take a trip to sainsbury’s, trek up the hill, have a chit chat, and start with some dynamic stretches on poolside🤸‍♂️.

Starting off the game with speed, we got going with some slay passes. Tadpole Mars worked hard on receiving some counter attack passes and getting the ball up the pool. Ceviche had some great fun with her player, escaping out of her grip at one point to nearly score just before the whistle blew. Anglerfish put in a heap of energy in this match, showing some speed up that pool and consistently putting pressure on her player.

Second quarter had some really solid defence going on, with southampton only scoring one goal in this quarter. Tadpole Izzy as pit D put some fabulous pressure on her player, building a solid defence, and showed loads of effort throughout the match - so much so that she threw up after. Tadpole Meg had her first women’s match with us today! She sped up the pool, easily staying close to her player, and showed some great defence. Leech found some beautiful space to receive the ball and managed to cleverly smack the ball out of Southampton’s hand a number of times.

Third quarter, some frustrations (or pure strength, depends how you look at it) from Leech and Helsinki got them both a major in this quarter. Helsinki played well against her player, never backing down and receiving some lovely feeds from Miracle flo. Miracle flo made some miracle saves, with her laser sharp focus. Stamina and energy was fab from the club capt, giving her all in goal, which in return southampton gifted her with a swollen thumb at the end of the game.

Fourth quarter, the girls had worked extremely hard this match and it was one last push. Tadpole Ella really embraced her rugby skills and strength, staying tight to her player and showing great enthusiasm for the game. Falala kept up her incredible love for drives, pouncing at the ball whenever she could. It was a treat to watch her speed up the pool with confidence and ease.

Some really stunning effort and play from these girls.

Score: 12-2

Player of the match: Smaragda for continuously working up and down the pool, doing some insane drives and showing energy throughout.
