Women vs Surrey - 17/10/2020+1 (H)
BLWP 6 - 12 Surrey
On Sunday 17th October 11 brave Women faced Surrey at the hallowed ground of Poplar Bath Leisure centre. The first quarter saw domination from the Barts ladies with quick swimming and strong defence. The first to score was Red-hood who after a break from WP during Covid-19 used her years and years of experienced to bang one into the net, getting the first goal of the season on the board. Port-a-loo was next with a thumping goal in after wrestling her player in pit. Throughout the quarter there was heroic goalkeeping from Helsinki who despite only having one functioning leg managed to save so many goals!! The final goal of the quarter came from the birthday girl herself, Tadpole Abi who paced it up the wing and snuck it in the corner, this put Barts ahead after the first quarter 3-2.
After a blinding start the goals then slowed in the second quarter as the Surrey team became more tight with marking. Tadpole Chere made her debut in the second quarter after a very successful music career. After ending up on the wrong side of the pool, she managed to keep finding pockets of space, much potential is in store for this previous pop star. The quarter ended with Port-a-loo managing to tackle the goalie and score, making the score 4-4 at the half time break.
The third quarter can be summarised with: violence and fatigue. Red-hood suffered an injury to her fingernail which was gnarly but continued to fight on. During this time of fatigue however, Tadpole Kev used her amazing endurance to outpace her defender on the wing and score a beautifully timed lob over the goalies head. Tadpole Venaya put in such a shift during this quarter, despite the tadpole being struck down with freshers flu she managed to steal the ball away from her opposite number on multiple occasion. The goals scored by the opposition did cause some hurt and we headed into the last quarter down 9-5.
The final quarter saw some real grit and determination from the fresher ladies. Although no prior experience in goal Miracle-Flo was majestic stealing the ball away from the opposition and fearlessly throwing herself around. Another beautiful moment then occurred as the third tadpole of the match scored. Tadpole Smaragda battled with her player and once gaining the possession of the ball smashed the ball into the top corner. Final score 12-6 to Surrey. A huge shoutout goes to Lil’ Sardine for somehow playing for the whole match and maintaining her energy throughout, mind blowing fitness levels. Despite not getting the win the cracking first half shows the HUGE potential of this team and we look forward to the rest of the season.
