Women vs UCL - 13/01/2019

UCL 10 - 8 BLWP

The readiness for our first match of the season was immense. Girls were buzzing since very early morning hours.. whether it was the perspective of playing one of our "favourite" rivals or post-match pizza social or Sophia's excitement about upcoming pub crawl.. I don't know but it worked. Leah was so hyped that she even came down to the pool and hour too early for our meeting!

After nice warm up we lined up, yelled 'Barts' and were ready to smash those UCL gals... unfortunately, it did not look anything like a proper water polo match. Our first quarter was rather a mess.. instead of thoughts like "fight fight", "let's set up an arc", "omg it's a man down" our minds were occupied by thoughts such as "wait a second.. what sport are we playing?", "is there any formation?", "omg ball! what should I do now?", "I feel so loved, everyone hugs me".. jokes aside, it wasn't good!

However, after that misunderstanding came the glory! We actually have not forget how to play water polo and showed an amazing form in the next three quarters!

There was an amazing marking most of the time but unfortunately we didn't hold our defence as tight and as the result we were punished by several goals scored by UCL. It is extremely important to mention that Soph's goalkeeping was INCREDIBLE! First match after Christmas and she was like a wall ... guess all the mince pies fueled her legs for that game!

During the whole game, 8 goals were scored and only 10 goals lost which is a MASSIVE improvement for our team.. some of us still remember times when we would lose with 10 or more goals difference. However, who scored the goals and in which quarter? The tabling for this match was rather questionable so only after intensive contemplation during our lovely post-match pizza social, we established the truth.

We finished knackered but extremely proud of ourselves! it was a very good much which showed us that hard work pays off!
