Women vs Essex (A) - 19/11/2023
The girls made a long tedious trip to lovely Colchester, which included two trains and a rail replacement bus. After tallying up the illnesses, hangovers and lost train tickets, the core 8 took on Essex with energy and enthusiasm from the get go.
Winning the ball we were off to a great start, making some smooth passes and quickly got to work scoring some goals. Starting as driver, Anglerfish stormed down the pool, beating her player everytime and slinging the ball with ease into the goal.
After having some concern for her bike that couldn’t go on the rail replacement bus, Lil Sardine snapped into laser focus during the game showing some stunning defence as well as drives, always winning the ball back and finding some great space.
Tadpole Annie had her first match with the girls and showed some fabulous defence, elegantly jumping out the pool to hit the ball mid air. Tadpole Annie won the ball a few times and speedily swam up the pool and made some stunning assists.
With 2 majors to her name, Helsinki was careful to not upset any players (or refs for that matter) with her mighty defence. Heli held off the opposition’s pit A with ease and made some beautiful passes around the arc.
Mary made her debut in the women’s team, having consistently marked her player throughout the match, and then scored a beauty in this quarter!
Leech swiftly swam into space to receive the ball, confidently drove into pit, scoring some great goals. Anglerfish scored a whopping 5 goals in this quarter, bringing the score up to 18-3.
After 3 long quarters with stop clock, we were finally nearing the end of a successful match. A few more goals and some position swaps occurred, and the girls kept up a solid defence.
Miracle flo was on fire making some impressive saves throughout the match, creating a fab defence.

A fab result, with some great movement and stunning skill on show. There’s continuous improvement and increased confidence with this team, including some great drives into pit which is lovely to see!
