Women vs Imperial (A) - 18/10/2023

BLWP 0 - 14 Imperial

The first match of the year for the women’s team had us trekking over to Ethos to play a game against Imperial. After a little hiccup at the start with some BUCS app shenanigans, we eventually got started.

Winning the ball, we set up a lovely arc from the start, and made some skilled passes😍Smaragda had great control over owning the ball and passed the ball with ease. Some lovely drives from Smaragda, having a really good shot at goal which was unfortunately saved by Imperial. Josie had her first match with us! and played a fantastic game, really bringing up the ball on the wing and getting some good counters.

Going into the second quarter, we had Kate showing some powerful moves, keeping her player on their toes and had some great communication when passing with the wingers. Martha G had really good pressure on her player, and it was her first women’s match as well!! She kept energy levels up and made sure to chase her player. Holly also had a good run of chasing down the pool with her player, showing some great blocking when in defence. Josie showed great tactics within our 5m, gaining us a penalty, which was sadly narrowly missed.

In the third quarter, Eira showed some great strength in the game, staying with her player and fighting for the ball. Josie was confused for a second as to why she was sent out when her player dramatically fake drowned in this quarter. Ella (first match as well!) was fantastic at drawing a foul, and made sure to stay on her player and show great defence work. Helienke had some lovely defensive work and acted as a fab core pit D, really helping out Christina in the turnovers and staying strong against her player.

In the final quarter, we saw Chere speed up and down the pool not letting loose of her player - quite literally - and was really strong in defence. Christina make some stunning saves throughout the match, including one to her face. Charis, coming out with battle scars and a black eye, showed fab strength in pit A, even with the double marking and drowning going on throughout the match.

Really good effort and energy levels today girls!! Some great coordinated subbing and communication too which was lovely to see :)

Score 14-0 to Imperial. A tough result but the game was really well played by the girls and everyone put in loads of effort and skill!

Player of the match: Ella for getting stuck into the game and showing some fab energy and enthusiasm throughout the game!
