After a tense morning of reviewing the BUCS regulations, as Surrey felt it necessary to give me a pop quiz as it was the first game of the season. We travelled down to Guildford from far and BHR.
The whistle blew and Incidor started swimming laps around her player, teasing her with her speed, managing to rile her opponent up so much that they had to resort to using their toenails to slow her down. Meanwhile BCF stood strong in Pit A, giving her opponent a tough time holding her slippery limbs. Ickthys was creating great move to and pressing her player but the ref though she needed some time to think and was awarded her first foul. Tadpole Tash made her debut saving some powerful pens with grace. The quarter ended at 3-0 to Surrey but doesn’t worry we are planning our come back.
The second quarter began and our comeback ensured. Leech did some leeching and swung the first goal into the net. With the ball rolling we weren’t going to stop. Falala took the first opportunity available to pound the ball into the net, shortly followed by some great pit work where she found another opportunity to score. Meanwhile Ceviche created movement on the wing moving her player with ease. VA stormed her way up the pool driving into pit to score without hesitation. Helsinki had Pit D on lock preventing her player from any opportunity at the goal. 8-4 to Surrey, we are back in the game.
After a brief team talk at halftime the third quarter began. Incidor raced to the middle to win the swim off, with the team shortly feeding the ball up to pit where Ickthys was waiting to translate this into a goal. Tadpole Hyma made her debut on the woman’s team with some fabulous work on the wing, putting all the training and tactics into practice perfectly. BCF was busy turning the ball over relentlessly. With Helsinki and VA creating the perfect pit D/driver ultimate defence combo wombo 2000 held Surrey from scoring many more goals and giving Helsinki an opportunity to score a goal. Dirty Chub had great movement on the wing helping to feed the ball up the pool to the attack. BCF scored an absolutely beautiful goal with great work from the team feeding the ball to pit. 12-8 to Surrey.
Our final quarter began. Tadpole Tash was batting away balls from every corner of the goal quicker than you can say shoot. Ceviche found space and scored. Falala drew a beautiful penalty and took it with grace scoring a great goal. Incidor raced her player up and down the wing and drove into driver when needed. The girls played with great movement and dynamically moving into any position needed. BCF found an opportunity to shoot and scored. In the final minutes both sides held strong and gave each other great back and forth play. BCF and her opposition got so excited the game was almost over that both were awarded a major foul. However after 20secs the ref decided BCF needed more time to sit and think about her exciting game she had just played. The final whistle blew and the score line settled at 16-11 to Surrey. I couldn’t be prouder of our first match of the season. We’ll be back stronger, watch this space.
